North East groups join G8 March in Edinburgh

Shortly before 12.45pm the Meadows erupted to the sound of Drumdin – the North East’s very own 22-piece samba band. Crowds gathered, and for fifteen minutes they astonished us with the energy of their rhythms. The uninhibited whirled with them. As everyone began to assemble for the march, other drummers and Scottish pipe bands took up the challenge. At 3.00pm those still marching came to a sudden halt to calls of “Shhh!” Around the city the whistles and chanting died down.

After the traditional speeches, Drumdin, a 30-piece samba band, will perform, followed by Baghdaddies, the UK's premier Balkan dance band, whose dynamic live improvisations create a unique and powerful sound.
